UK Visa Sponsorship Jobs Paying £43,000 and Above in 2026: Which Sectors and Companies Are Actively Hiring?

Not all UK visa sponsors are created equal. While over 126,000 organizations held a UK work sponsor license at the end of 2025, fewer than one in five were actively advertising roles for international workers. If you are targeting a Skilled Worker visa in 2026 — especially with a salary above £43,000 — sector choice is everything.

This guide breaks down the sectors and specific companies where sponsored job offers above £43,000 are genuinely available, not just theoretically possible.

The Salary Reality in 2026

The UK raised its general Skilled Worker threshold to £41,700 per year from 22 July 2025. But the salary you actually need depends on the going rate for your occupation code, which governs the application alongside the general threshold. The higher figure always wins. For most graduate-level professionals, that going rate already clears £43,000:

  • Software and web developers: £54,700
  • IT managers: £55,000
  • Data scientists and statisticians: £55,100
  • Electrical engineers: £58,700
  • Civil engineers: £50,400
  • Solicitors: £51,600
  • Chartered accountants: £49,200
  • Management consultants: £50,200

Targeting £43,000+ is sensible because it sits above the general threshold while covering many mid-level occupation codes without triggering going-rate shortfalls. The sweet spot is mid-to-senior professional roles — and the sectors below are where those roles concentrate.

Technology: Still the Highest-Volume Sponsored Sector

Despite a contraction in 2025, the UK tech sector issued 9,671 Skilled Worker visas to IT professionals in the year ending December 2025, making it the largest single category outside healthcare.

Who is actively hiring internationally:

  • Google UK, Amazon/AWS, Microsoft UK, Meta UK — software engineers, cloud architects, AI/ML engineers, and product managers. Salaries for sponsored roles typically start at £70,000 and often exceed £130,000.
  • Fintech companies — Revolut, Monzo, Wise, Starling Bank, Checkout.com, and Stripe actively sponsor backend engineers, data scientists, and security professionals at £60,000–£150,000.
  • IT consultancies — TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, Capgemini, HCL, and Accenture are the most prolific sponsors by volume. They sponsor SAP consultants, business analysts, and software developers at £42,000–£70,000.
  • Defense and deep tech — Darktrace, BAE Systems Applied Intelligence, Arm (Cambridge), DeepMind, and Bloomberg sponsor cybersecurity professionals and AI researchers at £50,000–£120,000.

Best roles for Nigerian tech professionals: Software developer (£54,700 going rate), cloud/DevOps engineer (£52,300 going rate), cybersecurity analyst (£48,500 going rate), and data scientist (£55,100 going rate).

Healthcare: The Most Accessible Route for Nigerians

Healthcare is the UK’s dominant sector for sponsorship. Nigerian nationals received 88,461 Health and Care Worker visa extensions in the year ending December 2025 — the second highest of any nationality after India. Every NHS Trust holds a sponsor license, and the Health and Care Worker visa waives the Immigration Health Surcharge, saving sponsored workers over £5,000 over a typical five-year visa.

NHS Trusts actively recruiting internationally:

  • Barts Health NHS Trust, Guy’s and St Thomas’, Imperial College Healthcare, and Royal Free London (all London)
  • Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, University Hospitals Birmingham, and Nottingham University Hospitals (Midlands and North)
  • Oxford University Hospitals and Cambridge University Hospitals (research and teaching hospitals)

Salary ranges that clear £43,000:

  • Band 7 specialist nurses and lead allied health professionals: £46,148–£52,809
  • Specialty registrars (doctors in training): £55,329–£63,152
  • NHS consultants: £105,504–£139,882
  • Pharmacists (Band 7): £46,148+

Note: Band 5 nurses start at £31,049 — below £43,000 — but qualify for sponsorship under the Health and Care Worker route’s separate pay-scale provisions. Targeting Band 6 or above puts you firmly in the £43,000+ bracket.

Finance and Banking: Consistent and High-Paying

The City of London cluster produced more Skilled Worker grants in finance than any other UK region outside the NHS. Finance analyst was the most common single occupation code on Skilled Worker grants between October 2024 and March 2025.

Top banking sponsors:

  • HSBC — analyst roles from £55,000; associate and VP-level roles well above £80,000
  • JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs — analyst base salaries from £75,000–£105,000; associates from £125,000+
  • Barclays, Lloyds, NatWest — technology, risk, data, and finance roles from £50,000
  • Deutsche Bank, BNP Paribas, Nomura, UBS, Citi, Bank of America, and Morgan Stanley — all maintain A-rated licenses

Consulting: PwC, Deloitte, EY, and KPMG sponsor experienced hires — managers, senior associates, and directors — in consulting, audit, and technology practices at £45,000–£120,000. Graduate-level entry is largely closed at this salary tier.

Engineering and Infrastructure: Undersupplied and Well-Paid

The UK issued only 1,660 Skilled Worker visas to the entire construction sector in the year to September 2025, yet the government needs to recruit 61,000 new construction workers annually to meet its housing targets. This mismatch makes sponsored engineering roles scarce but highly valued.

Best employers for sponsored engineers:

  • Multidisciplinary consultancies: Arup, Atkins (AtkinsRéalis), Mott MacDonald, Jacobs, AECOM, WSP. Civil and structural engineer roles pay £45,000–£80,000.
  • Major contractors: Balfour Beatty, Laing O’Rourke, Skanska UK, Mace Group, and Costain sponsor senior engineers and project managers.
  • Renewables and energy: National Grid, SSE Renewables, Ørsted UK, Siemens Gamesa, and Vestas sponsor electrical and power systems engineers at £50,000–£90,000.
  • Aerospace: Rolls-Royce (Derby and Bristol), BAE Systems, and Airbus UK sponsor specialist aerospace engineers.

Professional Services and Legal

  • Magic Circle law firms — A&O Shearman, Clifford Chance, Freshfields, Linklaters, and Slaughter and May — now pay NQ solicitors £150,000, a level standardized across all five firms from 2024. Trainee contracts pay £56,000–£61,000. US firms in London (Kirkland & Ellis, Latham & Watkins) pay even more, with top NQ salaries exceeding £180,000.
  • Management consultancies — McKinsey, BCG, and Bain — sponsor experienced consultants at a £90,000–£97,000 base salary.
  • Universities — Russell Group institutions consistently sponsor lecturers, researchers, and professors. Lecturers earn £40,000–£55,000; professors from £70,000.

Life Sciences and Pharma

AstraZeneca, GSK, Pfizer UK, Roche UK, and Novartis sponsor research scientists, regulatory affairs specialists, and engineers at £50,000–£100,000+. AstraZeneca’s Cambridge campus and GSK’s Brentford headquarters are the largest single-site clusters for sponsored life sciences roles in the UK.

What to Do Right Now

  1. Download the Home Office Register of Licensed Sponsors and filter for A-rated Skilled Worker sponsors. This list changes daily — always verify before signing an offer.
  2. Match your occupation to its SOC 2020 code and check the going rate in Appendix Skilled Occupations. If your target salary is below the current market rate, please renegotiate before applying.
  3. Build an IELTS for UKVI score at CEFR B2 if you cannot prove your degree was taught in English. This is now mandatory for new Skilled Worker applicants from January 2026.
  4. Focus your applications on NHS Jobs (healthcare), LinkedIn with the “visa sponsorship” filter (tech and finance), and specialist boards including UK Visa Jobs, Tarve, and Passion Projects.
  5. Book your TB test at an IOM-approved clinic in Lagos or Abuja early — it is a mandatory requirement for all Nigerian visa applicants and causes delays when left to the last minute.

The £43,000 salary marker is not arbitrary — it reflects a practical clearance level for the going rates that govern most graduate-level professional codes. Target companies in the five sectors above, verify every sponsor on the official register, and position yourself at mid-to-senior level where the sponsorship deals genuinely happen.
